Level 2 Diploma in Associated Industrial Services Occupations Passive Fire Protection

Overview

This nationally recognised qualification provides formal recognition for individuals working in passive fire protection across the construction industry.

It demonstrates competence in key fire protection activities and supports progression to higher-level qualifications and professional roles within fire safety and construction.

Who it’s for

This qualification is designed for installers and operatives involved in passive fire protection activities, including:

• Fire stopping and penetration sealing

• Installing fire-resisting ductwork systems

• Applying fire-resistant coatings

• Installing dry cladding and cavity barriers

• Fire door installation and protection systems

It is suitable for those already working on site who wish to gain formal, industry-accredited recognition of their skills.

Qualification structure

To achieve the qualification, candidates must complete four mandatory units and two optional units.

Mandatory units

1. Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace

2. Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace

3. Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace

4. Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms in the workplace

Optional units (choose two)

• Installing dry cladding to protect structural steel

• Applying thin film reactive coatings

• Installing fire resisting ductwork systems

• Installing fire stopping and penetration seals

• Installing flexible cavity barriers

• Erecting fire resisting walls, ceilings and linings

• Installing fire resisting timber door assemblies and doorsets

• Applying non-reactive spray coatings

Assessment

Assessment is conducted in the workplace by qualified assessors. Candidates must demonstrate competence through a portfolio of evidence, which may include:

• Observation reports

• Witness testimony

• Professional discussion

• Product evidence and photographs

• Written or oral questioning

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but candidates should already be working in a role where they can demonstrate practical skills in passive fire protection.

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

• A ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Associated Industrial Services Occupations – Passive Fire Protection (Construction) certificate

• A detailed record of completed units
