Overview
The Level 3 Award in Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment qualification is aimed at candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to be able to carry out fire risk assessments. Fire risk assessors will be responsible for carrying out fire risk assessments on various types of properties.
This qualification is based on the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in BS 8674 Built Environment – Framework for Competence of Individual Fire Risk Assessors – Code of Practice.
The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). This qualification has been accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
Delivery is flexible to suit the learner with a mixture of assessment methods available, there are no mandatory classroom sessions to attend. Units are completed through carrying out a range of fire risk assessments, writing reports and providing additional evidence regarding decision making, application of policies, guidance and awareness of your own knowledge boundaries.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal, academic entry requirements for this qualification. However, you must demonstrate to us that you have the experience, skills, knowledge and capacity to achieve this qualification through our internal assessment process.
Candidates must have the opportunity to carry out Fire Risk Assessments in a medium-risk building.

• Understand the principles of fire risk assessment for medium risk buildings.

• Understand how to develop own and other’s knowledge of fire risk assessment.
Practice of the Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment
• Prepare to carry out a fire risk assessment in a medium-risk building.
• Conduct a fire risk assessment of a medium-risk building.
• Communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders while carrying out a fire risk assessment of a medium-risk building.
• Demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviour.
Assessment
Assessment for the Level 3 Award in Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment is by production of a personal online portfolio. This is greatly simplified by our eLearning platform, through which evidence can be electronically submitted.
